One can travel through Metro Bus in Islamabad using either a Travelling Card or a Token.
TOKEN:
A yellow-coloured token can be brought from any of metro-bus station. It costs only 20 pkr and is given at first come first serve basis. The token has writing, 'Punjab Metro Bus Authority' written over and it contains an electronic chip. When one taps token over the reader at the bus station, the barrier automatically opens. However one token can be used only once and the chip in token deactivates within 2 hours making the token useless. These useless tokens are collected by staff-on-duty from out-going passengers for recycling purposes. So it is useless to buy a number of tokens for the upcoming journeys because they will become useless within 2 hours and thus wasting money. For regular basis journey one should prefer to use a travel card.
Travel Card:
Alike token, travelling card of metro bus also contains an electronic chip set. One can made his/her personal travelling card through any of the station of metro bus. It costs only 130pkr and does initially contains recharge of Rs. 120. Alike token, Travel Card is swiped over the reader at the bus station. The travelling card can be recharged again and again with the minimum recharge of 20 pkr. No discount is provided to the passengers using Travelling Card (i-e charges are same). People travelling to the busy stations such as Saddar station should prefer to make Travelling cards because at the token booths of these busy stations there are rows of people and it becomes difficult to get a token.
